“Menagerie of Nature”
A Solo exhibition of works by Amanda LaMunyon
New York City - The Port Authority is pleased to present, Menagerie of Nature, by Oklahoma-based impressionist artist, Amanda LaMunyon. This new collection of works will be her first solo show and will feature her acrylic paintings on canvas. The exhibition will be on view from November 1st through November 30, 2014 at The Port Authority South Wing, and is free and open to the public.
Menagerie of Nature ranges from the piercing eyes of a lion to the serenity of a glow in the dark beach on a moonlit evening. Each piece harmoniously interacts with nature creating dreamlike imagery. LaMunyon’s bold and simple lines create a balance of seeming relaxation with beautiful detailing.
LaMunyon has been painting since the young age of seven. She is an activist and public speaker for children with disabilities and has been donating proceeds of her artwork sales to this cause. Her paintings have received national acclaim. At just 12 years old, LaMunyon addressed the United Nations reciting a reading of a poem she authored in honor of the inaugural World Autism Awareness Day.
LaMunyon presented former President George W. Bush with a painting titled “Our Flag was Still There”; and the former First Lady Nancy Reagan with a portrait of Late Former President Ronald Reagan. The First Lady of Nevada, Dawn Gibbons, was given her chalk painting “God Bless the U.S.A.”
Amanda LaMunyon’s artwork has been featured in many books. Her artistic talents have received reviews in Woman's World Magazine, Pearls Magazine, Australia, The Huffington Post, Scholastic Magazine, USA Today, World Issues, Enid News and Eagle (Oklahoma), The Oklahoman. She has received numerous awards including the the Presidents Daily Points of Light and Volunteer Service Award.National exhibitions include “Performers on The Rise” - Oklahoma State University; “Mandalay Bay” - The Lily Claire Foundation; Children's Miracle Network; Abounding Grace Ministries; Oklahoma State Senate; "What Inspires Me" - Martin Luther King Library, Washington, D.C.; The Children's Museum, The Woodlands, Texas; Frederick Douglas in the Caring Hall of Fame, Washington, D.C. In New York City LaMunyon’s work has been exhibited at Carnegie Hall, The United Nations , The Salmagundi Historical Society and Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts.
LaMunyon was born and raised in the small town of Enid, Oklahoma. The panoramic beauty of her surroundings and her love of music has always inspired her to paint her interpretation of song on canvas.
